Saturday May 3rd 2008: Leading Plaid Cymru republican Dafydd Iwan has lost his seat in the 2008 Council Elections. Friday May 2nd 2008: Neil Welton, the leader of Monarchy Wales, is set to begin his final year at the helm of Monarchy Wales. Neil, whose three year term ends on May 31st 2009, said he was "particularly looking forward to pinning the Government down on Britishness" during the next twelve months ahead. Neil added: "Over the past two years I've worked closely with this Labour Government on matters concerning the Monarchy, Britishness and, of course, this idea of an even stronger United Kingdom. I'm therefore looking forward with a keen interest to learning more about the Government's final plans - and to see them now actually delivering for monarchists in these very important and key public policy areas." Explaining the decision to axe The Monarchy Wales News Feed which has already resulted in a number of e-mail complaints, Neil said the Feed had merely been a three month advertising campaign for the new Monarchy Wales News e-mail service. Neil said: "If people want to receive news and information that we have compiled then they must become a member of The Constitutional Monarchy Association - plain and simple. This idea that, in the long term, we are going compile all this news and information for non-members is, quite frankly, bonkers. As Her Majesty The Queen might say - "What do you think this is?"." When asked whether he would like to stay on for a second three year term as leader, Neil said he was "not too sure about that" at the present moment in time. However, he promised to make his intentions clear before that March 1st deadline. Thursday May 1st 2008: It has been announced that from May 1st 2008, Monarchy Wales will axe its Breakfast Briefing Newsletter, The Monarchy Wales News Feed and some other aspects of its publicly available online content.
